OUT OF SITE – PUBLIC PERFORMANCES IN CHICAGO

JULY 29 through OCT 14, 2011

EVERY FRIDAY FROM 5 p.m. to 7 p.m

The Wicker Park/Bucktown SSA No. 33 Art Committee (WPB) and Walkabout Theater Company have joined hands to fund twelve performances throughout the WPB neighborhood from July 29 through October 14 – every Friday from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Curated by Defibrillator Gallery, international, national and local performance artists, dancers and theatre companies will present their work in public places throughout the area.

The OUT OF SITE project is an opportunity for residents and visitors in WPB to experience something unexpected that might delight, pleasantly divert, or call into question the world we live in. Whatever the experience, we promise that it will be out-of-the-ordinary and intriguing.

OUT OF SITE is the brainchild of Whitney Tassie (Director of Monique Meloche Gallery) and Carron Little (Artistic Director of Walkabout Theater Company). They were thinking about how amazing it would be if when people came home from work on a Friday night there would be an orchestra playing in the Polish Triangle or some strange spectacle like Martine Viale from Canada slowly assembling an installation and then becoming a sculptural element. Most of the artists have opted to perform in The Polish Triangle making it a hub of festivities throughout summer and early autumn.

The list of performers includes Collaboraction and Environmental Encroachment, Ginger Krebs and Andy Braddock, Meg Duguid, Rachel Bunting and The Humans, Joseph Ravens, The New Colony, Martine Viale, 3 Card Molly, Industry of the Ordinary, Pretty Dirty and Walkabout Theater Company.

WPB aims to sustain and promote the prosperity, diverse character, and unique qualities of life within the Wicker Park/Bucktown neighborhood for the benefit of its residents, visitors, and businesses. WPB is excited to celebrate and support the arts by directly funding the artists. This project has been devised in conjunction with the WPB Mural Project. Please watch out for the orange walls in the WPB neighborhood. Visit www.wickerparkbucktown.org/

Walkabout Theater Company works with artists, writers and performers to create site-specific projects and devise new theatrical productions. Our current productions include Within (www.withinrooms.wordpress.com) and Crow by Jeremy Sher. Visit http://walkabouttheater.org
